Whether you are a home buyer or seller, proper water management is an important thing to watch for on a property. Most houses lack proper water management and owners wonder why they have a leaky corner in their basement or damp floors in hard rain fall.
Sometimes It’s an Easy Fix – Protect Your Investment
It’s all about directing water away from your home. The most common sources of improper water management are having your downspouts too close to the home or grade that slopes back towards the home.
The fix
Before you go hire a company and spend thousands on water proofing your basement, try getting your downspouts 6-8 feet away from the home. Try to avoid directing them towards your sidewalks, driveways or porches because that can cause other issues. Usually its best to get it out to the front or back yard.
If you have a side yard or driveway that slopes towards the home, you can try slab jacking the cement (an affordable way to raise the concrete away from the home) and also adding more topsoil or landscaping to the side of home to help raise the grade.
